Marcella Joan Nachtigal was born on January 7, 1932, at the Roos Family Farm north of Little Rock, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Marie (Dreessen) Roos. She attended country school and graduated from Little Rock High School in 1950.

On February 27, 1953, she was united in marriage to Floyd D. Nachtigal and to this union six sons were born. Marcella raised her boys on the family farm established northeast of Little Rock. Her dedication to family was tirelessly rooted in her faith, values, work ethic, love and the pursuit of education. Marcella worked for many years at the Adrian Nursing Home and Exopack in Sibley, Iowa, retiring in 2001.

She was a member of the Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock and the Willing Workers Circle. Marcella enjoyed gardening, canning, baking pie, sewing, and listening to polka music. She always enjoyed the company of her family and most visits involved a game of checkers or wahoo. Marcella will be remembered as a strong, independent woman who persevered in keeping her family as one, and the primary focus of her life. She openly accepted and loved all that became her family and proceeded with her life on her own terms; which in her time can be credited as nothing more than "bravery."

Her love, dedication, and strength will live on as an example of what we can be. In June of 2012, Marcella became a resident of Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth, Minnesota and passed away there on March 23, 2013 at the age of 81.
