SAVANNAH - Martha Durham Pike passed away peacefully at her home on March 25, 2013 under the care of Islands Hospice surrounded by her loving family and the wonderful caregivers from Handle With Loving Care. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dr. Benjamin Leonard Pike and her parents, Lorena and Wood K. Durham. She was born in Landrum, S.C. on a peach farm. She graduated from MUSC, the greatest nursing school. She practiced nursing in Savannah, GA for 33 years. She was member of the B'nai Brith Jacob, the JEA, the United Jewish Appeal, Hadassah, and the Savannah Jewish Federation. She was an avid, talented needlepointer and won numerous Blue Ribbons for her beautiful work. She is survived by her three daughters who she lived her life for: Charlean Stewart Smith (Donald), Sandra Stewart Blastick (Brad), and Suzanne Stewart Moccia (Chris), and four wonderful grandchildren: Heather Blastick, Justin Blastick, Benjamin Smith, and Melissa Smith. She also had five grand-dogs whom she loved almost as much as they loved her. Her sense of humor, generosity and loving spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her. The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Thursday morning, March 28, 2013, at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Avigdor Slatus. The family wishes to thank Islands Hospice, and all of the caregivers from Handle With Loving Care, who genuinely cared for her with loving hands. Remembrances may be sent to the B'nai Brith Jacob, 5444 Abercorn Street, Savannah, GA 30405. The family will sit shiva Thursday after the funeral and Friday before sundown at 12 St. Augustine Bend.
