Chester "Chet" C. Bolander, 83, of Hope, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mr. Bolander retired as a loan officer with Farmer's Home Administration and also had worked for the former First National Bank and Hope State Bank. He was a member of Hope Moravian Church, a member and Past Master of Hope Masonic Lodge, and a member of Yorkrite, Esther and Columbus Chapters of the Eastern Star.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and loved gardening, working on his farm and with his farm animals. He enjoyed mushroom hunting , was a NASCAR fan and was active with the American Red Cross and March of Dimes.
The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Hope Moravian Church with Rev. Jeff Van Orden officiating. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home in Hope and Monday from 10:00 until service time at the church. A Masonic memorial service will be Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted after the service at the church. Burial will be at Hartsville College Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to American Red Cross or March of Dimes.
Born in Bartholomew County Dec. 25, 1929, Mr. Bolander was the son of Charles and Grace Owens Bolander. He first married Sarah Jane Essex Aug, 16, 1950. She preceded him in death on Feb. 20, 1963. He then married Helen Hogan on May 1, 1965, and she survives.
Other survivors include children, Mark Bolander of Hope, Jon Bolander of Burney, Amanda (Jon) Betzner of Bunker Hill and Angela Kaye (Kevin) Mahoney of Hope; grandchildren, Sarah Betzner of Bunker Hill, Nick Betzner of Indianapolis, Emerald Grace Bolander of Hope and Steven Dale Mahoney of Hope.
Mr. Bolander was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; a daughter, Susan Kaye Bolander; and brothers, James and Billie Bolander.
