Brevet Lt. Colonel William H. Freemen of the United States Marine Corps died in Westboro, Mass. on March 11, 1845. He entered the United States Marine Corps in 1812, distinguishing himself in the sea battles of the USS Constitution with the HMS Java, the HMS Cyane, and the HMS Levant.

He entered the service as a Second Lieutenant, 17 August, 1812. Promoted First Lieutenant, 18 June, 1814. Promoted Captain, 17 July, 1821. Promoted Major, 1 July, 1834. Brevetted Lieutenant Colonel, 20 February, 1832.
