Songwriter, Producer. Best known for his association with The Jackson 5. He penned their hits "I Want You Back" (1969) "ABC" (1970), "Mama's Pearl" (1971) and "Maybe Tomorrow" (1971). Born Dennis Lussier in Los Angeles, his father Dane Lussier, a noted screenwriter whom contributed stories to the "Falcon" and "Dick Tracy" film series. It was the natural course to follow his father's path to the show business industry. He initiated his career in entertainment playing a band member in the B-film "Eegah" (1962) and went onto serve as part of a backing group with singer Debbie Dean. Richards caught the attention of Berry Gordy as Dean was signed to Motown Records. Richards whom wrote some of Dean's songs was brought in by Gordy as a staff songwriter and producer for Motown. His first mark with the label was a co-producer for The Supremes' hit "Love Child" (1968).
