Daniel Frank Dodd, 84, rural Williamsburg, died late Thursday evening at his residence after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born in Barree, Huntingdon County, son of the late Harry A. and M. Ruth (Warner) Dodd. He married Dorothy A. Damberg on Dec. 18, 1963, in New Brunswick, N.J.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters: Danielle Saylor and husband, Steven, of Harrisburg, and Tracy Rupert and husband, Eric, of Bellwood; a son, Travis and wife, Bobbijo, of rural Williamsburg; six grandchildren: Devon Rupert, Kaleb Dodd, Kayla Dodd, Luke Dodd, Cole Dodd and Maddox Saylor, who are ready to carry on the legacy of this great man; and a brother, Harry A. of Dallas, Texas.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Warren and "Al."
Mr. Dodd retired as a construction foreman from Schiavone Construction Company, Secaucus, N.J., where during his career he was employed in many facets of construction, including welding, high steel construction and cabinetry, and had at one time starred in a home improvements television show in the 1950s.
He was a 60-year member of Millwright Carpenter's Local Union No. 715, Elizabeth, N.J.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1941 to 1945 as an Army Ranger, attaining the rank of Private First Class, and receiving a Bronze Star Medal and Sharpshooters Badge with Carbine Bar.
Daniel was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Williamsburg.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2013, at John C. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with Father Aron M. Maghsoudi officiating. Committal with full military honors accorded by Blair County Veterans Honor Guard will follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Williamsburg.
The family suggests memorial contributions be given to American Lung Association or St Joseph's Church CCD Fund.
