He was born in Morgan County, August 6, 1907, the son of Walter and Lillie Stewart Mayes.
Mr. Mayes was a construction worker.
Surviving are his wife, Elsie; three daughters, Mrs. Earl "Betty" Turner of Waverly; Mrs. Leonard "Barb" Staton of Belevidere, and Mrs. Alan (Joyce) Betz of Sherman; one son, Donald of Jacksonville; one sister, Mrs. Lucille Turner; 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. One son, Kenneth Jr., preceded him in death.
Services were held at Neece Funeral Home with Rev. Alan Newhall officiating.
Burial was in Waverly East cemetery.
