The son of Nathan Bigelow Dutton (1781-1838) and Sarah Turner Baldwin (1805-1849), William Turner Duttonand his wife, Lydia Johnson, owned the large farm located halfway between Ripton and Goshen on the Goshen-Ripton Turnpike. His son Lewis Tippecanoe Dutton was a war correspondent for the Rutland Herald in the early stages of the Civil War.

The large farmhouse later became the Blueberry Hill Inn.
