Matthew Steven Payne, 29, of Grottoes, died unexpectedly on Thursday, December 4, 2008, at his home.

He was born August 28, 1979, in Waynesboro, the son of Howard and Lugene Payne of Grottoes.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his three children, Tyler and Carlie Payne and Sadie Hall; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Aleda Gochenour of Crimora; his brother, John Payne of Grottoes; and his two sisters, Lori Formato and her husband, Richard, and their children, Lilly and Jack of Wytheville; and Holly Einstein and her husband, Matthew and their children, Hannah and Katelyn of Harrisonburg.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 9 p.m. Sunday, December 7, 2008, at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 961 Goose Creek Road, Fishersville, and at other times at the home of his parents, Howard and Lugene Payne, 430 Paine Run Road, Grottoes.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions, in his memory, to the East Waynesboro Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 427 Cattle Scales Road, Waynesboro, VA 22980.
