Albert J. Clayton, 76, West Frankfort, a native of Williamson County, died at 10:05 pm Tuesday, December 31, 1968 in the VA Hospital in Marion where he had been a patient for 3-1/2 months.
He was born in Williamson County March 6, 1892, to the late Seymore and Hattie Cash Clayton.. A retired coal miner who last worked at Old Ben 9 in West Frankfort, he was a resident of West Frankfort for 30 years. He was a member of Second Baptist Church, West Frankfort, UMWA, veteran of World War I and a member of World War I Barracks 537.
Survivors include his wife, Daisy, daughters, Mrs. Pauline Mangum, Dallas and Mrs. Blance Whiting, Marion, step-son William Mygatt, Wood River; brothers, Theodore of Marion and Lum of Herrin, and sister, Mrs. Sarah Grimes of Carbondale.
Funeral services will be at Reedy Funeral Home, West Frankfort with Rev. Arthur Williams pastor of West Frankfort Second Baptist officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Marion with military rites at the graveside by the World War I Barracks.
