Ex-Teacher Dies At 80
Mrs. Edna B. Leonard, 80, of Quaker Road, Barker, died Thursday in Inter - Community Memorial Hospital at Newfane, where she had been a patient for two days. Mrs. Leonard, a lifelong resident of Barker and former schoolteacher, was born June 8, 1889 in Barker, the daughter of John L. and Bertha Hayes Baker. She taught school after graduation from the Wilson Training Class in 1909. She was the widow of the late Albert E. Leonard, who died several years ago. Mrs. Leonard was a member of the Croach - Corwin Club, Faith United Methodist Church at Somerset and the Golden Agers. She was a past matron of Townsend Chapter, Order of Eastern Star; past president of Barker Herbert Carr Post, American Legion Auxiliary and past noble grand of Barker Rebekah Lodge.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Albert (Betty Jean) Harrington of Newburg; two sons, Russell A. Leonard of Barker and Milton H. Leonard of Westfield, N. J.; two grandsons, Russell Leonard of Nashua, N. H. and Roger F. Leonard of New Haven, Conn.; two sisters, Mrs. William Sheppard and Mrs. John Dobbins, both of Alexandria Bay; two brothers, Cecil Baker of Clayton and Clyde Baker of Barker.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 5
and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Hood Funeral Home, Barker,
where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday. The
Rev. Allyn Foster will officiate. Burial will be in Somerset Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Faith United Methodist Church Building Fund, Barker Fire Department Ambulance Fund or the Heart Fund.
