POLICE PERSONALS

Charles Kane, who was reported in The Post as having been badly beaten by another man, named James Stokes, on the Seventh street road on Sunday night, died of his injuries in the Freedman's hospital at an early hour yesterday morning. He had been allowed to lie out on the road from 10 o'clock on Sunday night, when the fight took place, till 11 o'clock on Monday morning, though a number of residents in the neighborhood were fully aware of his condition. An inquest was held at the hospital yesterday, and a verdict that the deceased came to his death primarily from injuries inflicted in a fight with James Stokes was rendered. The latter was arrested by Officer Rhodes about 6 o'clock last evening. He will be held on the coroner's commitment for the action of the grand jury, which assembles on April 14. Much feeling is manifested regarding the heartless conduct of the people who left the man lying where he fell, as the exposure doubtless accelerated his death.
