My grandparents, David M. Beck Jr. and Mary Elen Mizer, were from Chelsea, OK. My grandmother died shortly after my mother Obera, was born. My grandfather was not capable of caring for an infant. He knew that his wife had a sister that lived in Purdy, Misourri (Minnie May Mizer Grubb). Having no horse or buggy or any other mode of transportation, he walked some 80 miles to Purdy, carrying my mother all the way, to deliver her to Aunt Minnie to raise as her own. Of course he stopped at farms along the way for food and a place to sleep.
