Died- At Butte, Montana. December 30th 1897, William A. Rogers aged 59 years, 4 months and 7 days.

The deceased was born in Livingstone county, New York September 23, 1838. When but a boy he moved with his parents, Enoch and Harriet Rogers, to Lorain County, Ohio, where he resided until the fall of 1861 when he came to Iowa: locating in Knoxville. In the summer of 1862, when the black cloud of secession was hanging over our land he responded to freedom's call and enlisted in Co. G. 18th Iowa Infantry. He remained in the service three years; being mustered out August 6th, 1865. Since that time, until a little over a year ago, his home had been in Iowa. The greater part of the time being spent at Prairie City. But more recently, after the death of his parents and the breaking up of the Prairie City home, he had made his home with his sister, Mrs. M. J. Cowman. Something more than a year ago he went west spending last winter in Salt Lake City. From there he went to Montana, stopping awhile in Anaconda, but finally going to Butte where he was stricken with apoplexy while walking on the street and lived but a short time. He did not speak after the attack and as he was a stranger it was several days before the authorities found his friends by letters found upon his person. The remains were interred, for the present in Mount Moriah cemetery, Butte City.

He never married. Five sisters are left to mourn the sad death of an only brother, a stranger in a strange land, with no loving hands to minister to him in his last moments nor no one to shed a tear as he was carried to his final resting place. Death in any form is sad but when the circumstances are such that you cannot assist in the last sad duties it is doubly so. May none of our reader ever know such a sorrow.
