Son of David Bliss and Lucy Blanding of Marshfield, VT., b. in Marshfield, 12/26/1811. Married Sylvia _____who was b. in Scipio, NY, 9/19/1815. Albert was twice elected to the Legislature of Wisconsin, 1854 and 1857.
Albert Bliss, a native of Vermont, came to Readstown in 1854 from Grant County, Wisconsin, where he had lived several years. He opened a store that fall and the next year embarked in the hotel business. He was a resident of the town until 1883, when he removed to Viroqua.
Albert Bliss, who was the second merchant in the place, opened the first hotel in 1855. It was a commodious frame building and considered an honor to the village. The hotel is now run by the widow of his son Albert P Bliss.
