Houlka – Sarah Laverne Vance, 93, died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at her home in Houlka.

She was born August 11, 1919, in Newton County to Grover Cleveland Vance and Emma Priscilla Massengale Vance. She was a homemaker, and a member of Pearson Chapel.

Services are Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at 10:00 AM at Houston Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Samuell officiating. Burial will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Houston. Houston Funeral Home of Houston is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her daughters, Scottie Gann (Sonny) of Houston, Carol Barefield (Larry Wayne, Sr.) of Houlka; her son. Jerry Wayne Vance (Martha) of Houlka; her sister, Bernice Belk of Moss Point; her grandchildren, Shane Gann, Dawn Davis, Darrin Vance, Shonda Clayton, Grant King, Serena Kilgore, Larry Barefield, Jr., Jeff Barefield; her great-grandchildren, Vance Gann, Danielle Tunnell, Blaize Gann, Preston Smith, Garett Vance, Emma Grace Kilgore, Lillie Vance, Rena Claire Kilgore, Brittany Clayton, Calleigh Davis, Brittney Samuell, Jacob Samuell, Jess Barefield; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Farris Neuman Vance; her parents; her brothers, Alton Vance, Delmas Johnson Vance and Ray Vance.

Visitation will be Monday, March 25, 2013, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Houston Funeral Home.
