Wife of Nathan Prentice Avery, married Jul 7,1897 at Chittenango,NY. He was born on May 13,1869 at Norwich,CT, a son of Edwin Prentice Avery and Adelaide Louisa (Smith) Avery. He died at Holyoke, MA on Apr 12,1947.

"Word has been received from Massachusetts of the death of Mrs. Nathan Prentiss Avery, the former Katherine Barnes Van Vankenburg of Chittenango on Oct. 26th. Mrs. was born in Chittenango, Feb. 4, 1875, the daughter of Harrison Cook and Mrs. Everson Van Valkenburg. She graduated from Yates Academy and attended Mrs. Grahams School for Girls in New York. After teaching at the Castle School for Girls, New Rochelle, N. Y., she returned to her home in Chittenango to teach school and there met and married Mr. Avery. He was principal of the Academy at the time. On their marriage in 1897, they moved to Holyoke. She leaves 2 daughters, Mrs. Frank E. Button of South Hadley and Mrs. Carl E. Allen of Chicago, 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. The funeral was held on Wednesday at Skinner Memorial Chapel and burial in Forest Dale Cemetery, Holyoke, Mass."
