Janice M. Freed, 92, North Manchester, IN died Friday, April 1, 2005 at 11:16 pm at the Wabash County Hospital. She was born February 26, 1913 in Fern Creek, KY, to Charles L. and Lida (Anderson) Bates.
She was an Urbana High School graduate. She served as a nurses aid at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, was a telephone operator in Urbana, and was very active in volunteer work. She was a member of the Manchester United Methodist Church, enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Teresa (Gary) Heckman; great-grandson, Ken Heckman; and great-granddaughter Katie Heckman, all of North Manchester. She was preceeded in death by a son, DeWayne Joseph Freed, daughter, Kay Louise Freed, three brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at 2:00pm at the Peabody Chapel, North Manchester. Pastor Fred Bishop will officiate. Burial will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8pm Monday at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel.
