Inventor. Born in Washington, D.C., he was a designer-engineer noted for his patents used on ships and steamers. Some of his achievements included a draft gauge for use on ships moving in liquids, comprising a static pressure measuring device and the Pitometer Log which clocks ship speeds, along with instruments to gauge water velocity. He died at age 78 in Upper Montclair, New Jersey.
