Brice Edward Martin was the son of Valentine and Serena (Yancey) Martin. He married Marietta or 'Minesi or Menetia' F. Reynolds on November 15th 1859. They had one son, Caliben "Callie" Martin. Brice was a 28 year old farmer who enlisted in Co. F 57th Virginia Infantry, on July 10th 1861, at Mount Vernon Church, Henry County, Virginia. Promoted 2nd Corporal on October 20th 1864. Captured at Five Forks, Virginia, on April 1st 1865. He was then moved to Hart Island, New York Harbor. He arrived April 7th 1865 and died there on April 16th 1865 of " inflammation of the bowels". Brice was one of seven men buried in Cypress Hills National Cemetery from the 57th Virginia Infantry.

Gravesite Details
The stone incorrectly lists his birth year as 1837 but military records show Brice was born in 1833. The inscription is in all capitals. Usually written as Cpl Co F and Brice served in the 57th Virginia Infantry instead of the 5th.
