Born at Alexander, Rush County, Kansas, the oldest child of Johannes "John" and Mary Elizabeth Ochs Repp, both Volga German immigrants. Katie moved with the family first to Colorado where her sister Polly was born and then to St. John sometime before 1910.

Katie married James Leroy Floyd, on July 2nd, 1927 at Colfax and they had a son, James Richard Floyd in 1928. They lived in Colfax where Katie kept house and Jim worked as a carpenter. Jim died January 10, 1957.

Katie married Joseph Gregory Vandoren who also preceeded her in death.

She was a sweet and lovely person with a quick wit.
