David Cicero James Burney (Jr.) went to rest in the arms of the Lord Jesus Christ Tuesday morning, February 16, 2010, aged 78 years, 3 months.

He was born in Bay City, Michigan to David and Elinora Burney Sr. on November 10, 1931. David was united in holy matrimony to his loving wife of 47 years Khira Bumey in LaRachelle, France on December 22, 1962. David confessed Christ at an early age and was a lifetime member of the Historic Second Baptist Church, where he organized the Second Baptist Drill Team.

In 1948, at age 17, David C J Burney enlisted in the United States Army and served his country for 25 years. Sgt. First Class Burney retired honorably from that service in 1974. During his military career David's battlefields ranged from those of the Korean War to those of the Vietnam War. Upon his uniform he proudly wore: the Bronze Star; Vietnam Service Medal; four Overseas bars, Vietnam Campaign Medal; Good Conduct Medal; Driver Badge and National Defense Service Medal w/1OLC.

After retiring from the U.S. Army at age 43, "Junior" worked as a Purchasing Agent in Bay City, but his career made him of interest to the famous Burns International Security Services Company, largest security provider in the USA. As a supervisor in their paramilitary structure, David was ranked a Major. The main location of his employment was San Jose, California.

David C J Burney, II belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. In Bay City he was actively involved with the United Way Campaign. Mr. Burney was proud to be a Third Degree Mason. David maintained membership in the NAACP.

"He leaves to cherish his memory, Khira his wife. His daughter Sylvia E. Cole, of Bay City, MI and son David (Glenna) F. B. Burney III, of Edwardsville, IL.
Six grandchildren, Bryant McCain II and Chondrea Cole of Bay City, MI, LaTeisha Burney of Beaufort South Carolina, David Bumey IV of Bay City, MI, Skylar Burney and Blake Burney of Edwardsville, IL. two great-grandchildren, Christian Bumey and Sholanda McCain. David also was survived by his sister Vita L. Burney of Greenville, IL and brother Freddie Burney of Bay City, MI and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many many friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents, David and Ellnora Burney Sr.. David was also preceded in death by five siblings, Sylvester Burney, Almeada Bradley, Winifred Jackson, William Burney, and Nathaniel Burney."
