Percy Bidwell Dies; Scion of Early Settlers Westover Man a Veteran E J Employe; Was 63 Years Old Percy Stiles Bidwell, who died Sunday at his home In Westover In hls sixty-third year, had always lived in the house where he died. He was a son of the late Gerard and Celia Bidwell, who also were life long residents in tho family homestead, at 704 Main street. Gerard Bidwell was a justice of the peace of the Town of Union for many years. An employe of the Endlcott Johnson corporation for the last 36 years. Mr. Bidwell was among the oldest of the E J workers, having been employed In the factories at Johnson City when that village was known as Lestershlre. When he began work for E J the area now comprising Westover was farmland. This also was true regarding Endlcott and West Endlcott. Before entering the employ of E J, Mr. Bidwell was a traveling representative of the Owego Bridge Co., of Owego. Most of the village of Westover has been built on land formerly owned by the Bidwell family, who are said to have been among the earliest settlers in Broome county. The family has resided at the present home In Westover during five generations. Mr. Bidwell attended the Sarah Jane'Johnson Memorial church in Johnson City. Survivors Include his wife, Mrs. Elsie M. (Blair) Bidwell: two sons. Lewis J. and Richard. B. Bidwell of Westover; two sisters, Mrs. Edith Robinson of Cobleskill and Miss Helen Bidwell of Westover; and three grandsons, Richard, Ronald and Robert Bidwell, all of Westover. The body was removed to the Ivan A. Barber funeral homo. 34 Broad street, Johnson City and will be taken to his home Tuesday morning. THE BINGHAMTON PRESS, MONDAY EVENING, OCTOBER 22,1934
