He was the son of Harry Elsworth and Rose Marie Fisher Dowling. His father died when Albert was 9 months old. In 1910, he, his sister Teresa, and his brother Charles "Chuck", were living at St. Joseph's Orphan Asylum in Pittsburgh. Although their mother was living, she was unable to work and care for them, and many of the children in the orphanage at that time actually had one living parent.
He was the step brother of Harry F Dowling.
His mother, Rose Marie Fisher Dowling, md. Clyde C. Mock about 1919. The family lived in Warrendale, PA and Sewickley Heights, PA.
Albert md. 1 to Florence Martz; and md. 2, after re-locating to Washington state, to Cecilia C. Baker, who survived him.
