Thomas was born Feb. 18, 1920 in Altoona, Pa the son of the late Reggie and Eulalia Chirdon Luther.
He was a graduate of Altoona High School and served in the United States Air Force from 1938 until retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1962. After being honorably discharged in 1962, Thomas relocated with his family in Youngstown. Due to declining health, Tom moved to Colorado in 2008, and to Illinois in 2010, to be closer to his family.
He was an active member of St. Brendan Church in Youngstown and volunteered as a math and computer science teacher at the St. Brendan Elementary School for 20 years. Thomas was also a member of the Staff Sergeants of America Association and worked for 23 years as a technician for Sunbeam Appliance Service.
Tom immensely enjoyed cycling and was often seen riding his bicycle on the streets and in the parking lots on Youngstown's west side and liked to stop and talk with people he met along the way. It was noted that he averaged 5,000 miles per year on his bike from 1985 to 2005. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
Thomas leaves a son, Regis C. (Rebecca) Luther of Naperville; two daughters, Margaret (William) Kline of Chesterfield, Mo. and Mary Lou Stevens of Whitewater, Colo.; five grandchildren, Jeffrey (Fernanda) Kline. Jessica Cole, Allison Giddings, and Tabor and Brendan Luther; a great-grandson, Jordan; and a sister Marie Minster of Denver.
His wife, Victoria S. "Vicki" Cuzzolino, whom he married July 20, 1949, passed away Dec. 3, 2005. Four brothers, James, John, Donald and Robert Luther, and two sisters, Anna Mae Prekop and Adelaide Porta, are also deceased.
Interment with military honors will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
