Reason was the son of Joseph C. and Catherine Heckman Harter (also buried in the Brick Church Cemetery) and the husband of Hannah Ulrich. He was the father of Daniel, John, Christina, Amanda and Aaron Harter. Two infant children buried beside headstone of Reason and Hannah. His brothers Jacob, and wife Elizabeth; Levi, and wife Elizabeth; sisters Mary Ann Harter Jackson and Catherine Harter Smith are also buried in the Brick Church Cemetery.
