Bill D. Porter, Jr., 65, passed away March 22, 2013.
Survived by his beloved wife of forty-six years, Judi Porter; sisters, Charlene Porter of Arvada and Kimmi (Bob Franz) Porter of Pueblo West; nieces, Brandi (David) Peterson and Danika Breece (Joe Bonfidini); nephews, Daniel Breece, Robert J. Breece, Bryan (Terri) Whitehead, Bradley Whitehead and Christopher (Angie) Spino; grandnieces and grandnephew, Bella Rae Bonfidini, Kameron, Blake and Alina Peterson; and numerous cousins.
Bill was born June 8, 1947, in Pueblo, to Jeraldine P. and Billy D. Porter, Sr. Bill loved to roller skate bicycle, play baseball, basketball and bowl when he was a young boy. He helped his grandfather renovate homes for resale for a local realtor and loved spending time with his grandmother. He also loved going to Walsenburg to taste the wonders of "Porters Dairy Delite" (like a Dairy Queen) in the '50s. He also loved going to his Grandma and Grandpa Smiths' home at Meadow Gardens, spending much of his time on the river bottom playing. Going to his cousins home in the county was fun also and he enjoyed many hours playing there. Bill liked pheasant hunting and camping, but really loved taking his dogs to the mountains with his wife Judi. He liked taking the horses up to high lakes with his Dad and many other guys to go fish and boat and had many wonderful tales to tell about what they all did. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War in Korea. Bill loved being a railroader working on the Denver & Rio Grande, Union Pacific and Southern Pacific Railroads. It was in his blood. He enjoyed working the Local with his best friend, Terry Burns, for many years, and with his dry humor and friendliness, made many friends with the other rails.
Going to Las Vegas to swim, eat, bet and see the shows and sights was right at the top of Bill's list of enjoyments. He and Judi went many times and enjoyed staying at different hotels each time they went. Special fun trips to Disneyland, and to Disney World, were a highlight, like Las Vegas, he and Judi stayed at a different hotel each trip and ventured to new sights and events. Trips with the nieces and nephews were always fun and he hoped the kids would always remember them. He had so much fun! Everyone had to ride Dumbo -tea cups too - just because.
Bill loved his family and always wanted the best for them. He had a lot of fun adventures with Charlene and always cared about her happiness and her son, Chris. He and Judi had a lot of fun with Kim as a baby, small girl and growing up - then loving her family.
Bill was always a kind, generous and caring person. He was always helping someone in some way with their project, construction, fund-raising, or donating money or supplies.
Bill was a member of Order of DeMolay, United Transportation Union # 204, NARVRE, Rio Grande Veterans Club #6 and a former member of B.P.O. Elks.
There will be no viewing. Cremation, Montgomery & Steward Crematorium. Memorial service, 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013, in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel with Chaplain Jerico DeVeyra officiating. Military honors by Pueblo Veterans Ritual Team and interment at Roselawn Cemetery. Online condolences, www.MontgomerySteward.com
