TYLER, ROGER C., 88, of Louisville, KY, passed away on Friday morning, March 22, 2013 at Baptist East Hospital. He was born August 30, 1924 in Jefferson County, KY, but grew up in Bardstown, KY. He attended Bardstown High School until World War II began. He left his senior year, and enlisted in the Coast Guard. After basic training, he was assigned to a Destroyer Escort that made 16 trips across the Atlantic Ocean protecting US Transports. He was then sent to the Pacific Front, until the end of the war, where he was involved in the occupation of Japan. He was later called back into the Navy, when the Korean war began. After the war, Roger finished high school and attended Business School for two years. He then worked at IBM in Louisville, before eventually taking a sales job with Beauticians Supply Company in Louisville. He worked his way up to President and owner of the company, and finally sold the company when he retired. He enjoyed traveling and particularly fishing with his wife, Charlenia, who preceded him in death on August 15, 2008. Roger is survived by two daughters and two sons, Beverly Robertson (Jim), Dennis Tyler (Sally), Donald Tyler (Ellen), and Charlotte Tyler (Mike Slusher); eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Grave side memorial will be held Tuesday at Holy Cross Cemetery in Holy Cross, KY. He was a member of Christian Church in Bardstown, The American Legion Post 201, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Destroyer Escort Sailors Association. In lieu of flowers, please send expressions of sympathy to the Wounded Warriors.
