Friends and family will gather on Friday in Santa Cruz to celebrate the life of Ryan Keith Terry who passed away at his Santa Cruz home early Sunday morning. Ryan would have celebrated his 29th birthday on March 11. He was born in Santa Cruz, and attended Gault Elementary School, Mission Hill Junior High and Santa Cruz High School. Ryan was a graduate of the California School for the Blind and studied music at Cabrillo College.
Ryan was an accomplished drummer, guitarist and organist. He enjoyed performing, composing and recording music. His musical tastes ranged from Bach to Hendrix. His extensive knowledge of musicians, instruments and musical history impressed everyone who knew him as did his kindness and generosity.
He held a 2nd degree brown belt in Shotokan Karate and was a railroad aficionado. He volunteered his time to the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History and the Santa Cruz Public Library.
Ryan leaves many dear friends and colleagues, and is survived by his parents, Sue Whitney and Tim Terry of Santa Cruz, sister Monica Terry of Morillton, Arkansas, step parents Beata Willison, David Stouder and Lou DiMenna, step brother Andrew Kolasa of Walnut Creek, CA, and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013 at 4 pm at Pacific Gardens Chapel. A private committal will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity .
