JOHN ROBERTS
John Roberts, born February 22nd, 1852 in Monroe County was the son of Stephen and Catherine Roberts. On January 26th, 1887 he was wed to Miss Helen VanWasshenova, the daughter of Dominic and Angela VanWasshenova. Eight of the nine children born to this couple are living. They are: Mrs. James (Lydia) Bernard of Monroe: Mrs. Charles (Delia) Masserant, Mrs. Edward (Emma) Masserant, Chauncey, Mrs. Harvey (Frances) Reaume, Mrs. Royal (Myrna) Reaume, Henry, and Amos, all of Newport.
Mr. Roberts was a sailor in his early manhood for two years after which he devoted his interests to farming, an occupation which he followed until his death in March 1926.
Mrs. Roberts is a devoted Catholic, and she and her family contribute generously to the support of the church. Henry and Amos, both of whom are unmarried, live with their mother.
