Daughter of John E. Sullivan of Wilson County, Tennessee. Married Jesse D. Jones September 14, 1853 in Wilson County. Became a member of Bradley's Creek Baptist Church in Milton, Tennessee in Sept 1851 with her father, stepmother, and siblings and attended until about Jan 1857. Later moved to Cannon & Rutherford Counties, Tennessee. Lived in Murfreesboro, Rutherford County from about 1870-1890, then moved with all of her children, except a married daughter, to Bonham, Fannin County, Texas where she died.
She named several of her children after her siblings: John, Thomas, & Jefferson. She is buried in the Tarpley plot in Arledge Ridge with the tombstone epitaph: "Alas how sad to part with thee/ Friend of my better days." Malissa is buried near her son Robert Wesley Jones, his wife, Mollie Tarpley Jones, & various descendants.
