Former Resident of Burlington and Veteran Railroad Man, Succumbs
Word has been received here of the death of Harry E. [Edmond] Jarvis, for many years a resident of this city, who died at his home in Berwyn, Ill., after an illness of several months.

He had not been well for some time and about five months ago was obliged to go to the hospital for treatment. His trouble was diagnosed as pernicious anemia. Since that time he has been confined to his bed with the exception of about three weeks in February. His death occurred Wednesday evening, April 19.

Mr. Jarvis was born in Leeds, England, April 3, 1853, the fifth child of Henry and Caroline Jarvis. His parents came to America in 1854 and four years later took up their residence in Burlington, Ia., where he was educated and spent most of his life. In 1876 he was married to Miss Alma Cecelia Sellon. Mrs. Jarvis died here in 1904. Of the five children born to them, two are living, Herbert C. Jarvis, of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Edith Jarvis Aiden, of Berwyn, Ill. He also leaves one brother, Walter J. Jarvis, of Hinsdale, Ill.

Mr. Jarvis entered the employ of the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad company on January 1, 1882 in the office of C.E. Perkins and continued there until January 1, 1912, when he was transferred to Chicago. He has held the office of assistant secretary of the C. B. & Q. for the past twenty-one years, resigning last February on account of his continued illness.

His son and daughter were present with him at the time of his death and will bring his body to Burlington, for burial in the family lot in Aspen Grove.

Funeral services will be held at the chapel of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, at the Corner of Twelfth and Locust streets. Time of services will be announced later. (Burlington Gazette, Burlington, IA, April 20, 1922)
