Mettler Lucy M. 1872 1941
Lucy M. Wallace Obituary, November 13, 1941, Atwood Citizen-Patriot:
On November 6, 1941 word was communicated that Lucy M. Wallace, honored citizen, had passed to her eternal abiding place in the great beyond. And while it came as a grate shock to her many friends, all had felt for several days that it was only a question of time until the inevitable must come.
Lucy Mildred Mettler was born on December 25, 1872 and died at her home in Atwood, Kansas the morning of November 6th at the age of sixty-eight years, ten months and eleven days.
In February 1900 she was united in marriage to W. W. Newsome, who passed away to the great beyond in January 1904. In April 1907 she was married to William Wallace who survives her.
She came to Rawlins County in 1886 where she lived with her parents in Beaver township until her parents moved to Atwood which has been her home until death. Aunt Lucy as she was known to her many friends, was a faithful member of the Methodist Church for many years and was the oldest member in Rawlins County having been baptized in 1887 and when the last great summons came and she could hear the waves softly beating on the farther shore she answered will full faith the call to a place in that mansion not made with hands eternal in the heavens.
The funeral services were held Friday at 2:30 in the Reeves Funeral Home. They were conducted by Rev. Smoot and the Eastern Star of which she was an honored member.
