EARL CHRISTY
Earl Edwin Christy, 79, formerly of 1825 Albia Road, died at 1:45 am October 17, 1988 at Ridgewood Care Center. He was born January 27, 1909 at Laddsdale to Alva and Laura Slater Christy. A resident of Wapello County all his life, he was an employee of John Morrell & Co. for 28 years, retiring in 1984. He was one of the founders and charter member of the Bible Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. He served on the building committee and was a long time Sunday School teacher. He was a member of Gideons International and South Ottumwa Boosters. He married Claudine King June 22, 1929, in Ottumwa; she died April 20, 1985. He is survived by three daughters, Patrica J Bauman of Ottumwa, Connie B Wharton of Sterling, Virginia, and Judy E Ortega of Wichita, Kansas; three sons, James E, Robert H, and Richard C of Ottumwa; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; two brothers, Rex and Raymond Christy of Ottumwa; and a sister, Marvel Shoemaker of Ottumwa. The service will be at 1:30 pm Thursday at Bible Baptist Church, the Rev. Ival Robinson , the Rev. Billy Poole, and the Rev. James Kirkland officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at Reese Funeral Home from 7 pm to 9 pm Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Jerry, Jay, Jody, Gregory, and Goeffrey Christy and Doug Bauman.

I went looking for Laddsdale, Iowa and found mention of it now being a ghost mining town, but it existed from 1872-1918 and it is located near Eldon, Iowa.
