Caroline Younger was born May 12th 1842. The sixth of fourteen children born to Henry Washington Younger and Bursheba Leighton Fristoe. She was the apple of her fathers eye and the family lovingly referred to her as "Duck". Sadly on August 14th 1863, she suffered many injuries after the building collapsed that Union Brig. Gen Thomas C. Ewing had imprisoned her and over 100 other young girls/women in during the Civil War. Caroline married George M. Clayton in the year 1860 and together they had 2 children, Leola & Augustus Bennett. On Jan 20, 1868 Caroline died from an infection three and a half months after giving birth to her third and last child Mary Matilda. She was loved and she will be remembered.
