Martin W. Barnes M.D. (- - 2013)
Obituary

Martin W. Barnes, M.D. died March 20, 2013, with his family by his side in Ventura, Calif. He is survived by his wife, Marayn; daughters, Kathleen Lowenbach, Claudia Moore, Susan Dorn; son, Steven Johnston; brother, Charles Barnes; sister, Mariane Noakes; grandchildren, Jackson Strobel, Cody Moore, Christopher Johnston, Michael Johnston, Lisa Johnston, Marcus Johnston, Jacob Aydelotte; and great-grandchildren, Connor Johnston, Maximus Johnston, and Aspen Yaeck.

Born in Dinuba, Calif., Martin is an alumni of Ventura Sr. High School, Ventura College, UC Berkeley, and USC where he graduated from med school. He enlisted in the Navy and is a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. With minimal medical facilities and surgical instruments, he saved a seaman's life by performing an emergency appendectomy while stationed on an L.S.T. off the coast of Korea.

From 1949 to 1981, he had a private pediatric practice in Ventura.

He loved to travel and he was a long-time member of the Ventura Missionary Church. An avid golfer since 1951, Martin participated in and won many tournaments. He has shot four holes in one, several Eagles, and his age twice; the last time when he was 72. He played up until January of this year. He was 92 years old.

Martin was a kind, soft-spoken man, with a dry sense of humor. A devoted husband, father, and friend, he will be dearly missed.

We will celebrate his life at the Ventura Missionary Church on March 25, at 500 High Point Drive, Ventura, at 11 a.m.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Charles Carroll Funeral Home, 642-8134.
