Roman Catholic Bishop. Served as the second Archbishop of Baltimore, Maryland, from 1815 until his death. He had previously served as the fourth president of Georgetown University from 1799 to 1806. Neale was the first Roman Catholic bishop to be consecrated in the United States, all previous American bishops had been consecrated in Italy. He founded the Convent of the Visitation in Georgetown University, Washington, DC, where he is buried.
