Mr. Hiram Mason died at South Creek, Pa., Sept. 13, 1895 aged 87 years and 4 months. One sister, Mrs. Emily McClelland, of Addison, N. Y., two sons, Furman of Elmira and Walter of South Creek, and one daughter, Mrs. Laura Craig of South Creek, survive him. Mr. Mason was born in Delhi, Delaware Co., N.Y. He was the third child of William and Lydia Mason. His marriage to Jane Furman of Columbia township occurred Jan. 12, 1832. Seven children were born to him of this union.

Mr. Mason had lived 41 years upon the old farm home at which he died. He was a large man and venerable in appearance. He could look down into the lists of his descendants and, like the patriarchs of old could rejoice in the number of his days. Seventeen grandchildren have risen up to call him blessed; as many more great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild. Six of his grandsons acted as bearers at the funeral.

Father Mason was a grand old man, bright in thought, reliable in judgment, and in his sturdy nature there was ever a place kept warm and winning for little children. He dearly loved the grand children and had exercised great care for them. He had strong religious faith and convictions. Having believed in God's everlasting love to the children of men, in Jesus Christ, as the Saviour of the world, he was immovable in this faith, to the last of his consciousness.
