Mountaineer and film director. A member of the 1953 British Mount Everest Expedition in which Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay reached the summit of Mount Everest.
During the expedition Lowe directed the documentary film, "The Conquest of Everest", which documented several expeditions on Mount Everest, which received an Academy Award nomination in 1954 for best documentary feature. A funeral service was held at Markeaton Crematorium, Markeaton Lane, Derby. George's son Bruce took his ashes to the top of Mt Elie de Beaumont in New Zealand's Southern Alps.
