Herbert Elmer Walters, of Harleyville, entered into eternal rest March 21, 2013, in Walterboro, SC.

Elmer was born November 14, 1931, in Harleyville, the son of the late John Middleton and Flossie Williams Walters.

He was a retired repairman at Giant Cement Company and a founding member of the Harleyville Southern Methodist Church.

Herbert was an Army Veteran; he attended the University of South Carolina and was an avid outdoorsman.

Surviving are his wife Betty Jean Dowd Walters, of Harleyville; his children, John P. (Christine) Walters, of Goose Creek, Stephen M. (Diane) Walters, of Harleyville, Jeffery W. (Tammy) Walters, of Hanahan; grandchildren: Ryan Walters, Michael Travis (Kimberly) Walters, Daniel Ivan (Virginia) Walters; three great-grand children; sisters: Shirley Ann Mobley, of Harleyville, Lucy Mae Walters, of Greenville.

He was predeceased by his siblings: Bobby Walters, Harry Walters, John W. Walters, Bill Walters, Marion (Polly) Walters, Ruth Dopp, Francis Walters and Thelma Walters.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM, March 24, 2013, in the Harleyville Southern Methodist Church with Reverends Larry Sprague and Craig Crosby officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. The burial will follow in the Harleyville Cemetery.
