Funeral services for Travis Lavern Dixon, 73, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2011 at North Hartsville Baptist Church. The Rev. Ladell Humphries and The Rev. Dr. Richard Bailey will officiate with burial in Magnolia Cemetery and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is serving the family. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 28, 2011 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Dixon died Tuesday, April 26, 2011. Born in Darlington Co., SC, he was a son of the late James Ervin and Grace Caulder Dixon. He was a member of North Hartsville Baptist Church. He retired from Sonoco March 1, 1999 after 40 years of service. He served his county in the U. S. Navy. He was an avid fisherman and a skilled woodworker and carpenter. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He was always on the go and enjoyed travelling with his family.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce O'Neal Dixon of Hartsville, SC; son, Ricky L. Dixon of Hartsville, SC; daughter and son-in-law, Terri (Freddie) Dean of Wendell, NC; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty Jean Howle of Hartsville, SC, Virginia (Ronnie) Linton of Hartsville, SC, Brenda (Leon) Gandy of Sumter, SC; brothers and sisters-in-law, Heyward (Maxine) Dixon of Hartsville, SC, Jack (Sylvia) Dixon of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Kelly Dixon, Darren Dixon, Katie Dean, and Daniel Dean. He was preceded in death by his brother, E. J. Dixon, sister, Ernestine Dixon Lloyd.
