George Lloyd Lewis, 89, of Salida, died Thursday March 21, 2013 at the Spanish Peaks Medical Center in Walsenburg, Colorado.

He was born July 14, 1923 in Fredon, New Jersey to Harry and Mabel (Knox) Lewis. Mr. Lewis attended grammar school in Fredon, NJ and high school in Newton, NJ. He was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945. He was a Flight Engineer on a B-17 Flying Fortress and flew missions with the Eighth Air Support Bomb Group out of Glaton, England.

He was united in marriage to Marguerite Fish on May 23, 1948 in Baleville, NJ. Mr. Lewis was employed by AT & T Laboratories in Whippany, NJ and then transferred to the AT & T Laboratory in Denver. He retied in 1983 after 29 ½ years. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Salida, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 457th Bombardment Group and the Eighth Air Force Historical Society.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Garry K. Lewis.

He is survived by his wife Marguerite Lewis of Salida, sister-in-law Dorothy Muser of Salida, cousins Dr. Robert S. Knox of Rochester, NY and Charles H. Lewis of Hancock, Maine.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday April 2, 2013 at the First Lutheran Church in Salida. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Lutheran Church through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
