He 1st married Annie Leberski Aug 1884 in Elko, Nevada. They had 2 daughters, Sophia Lena Taufer (1885-1917) and Annie F. Taufer (1886-1891), and a son, Theodore A. Taufer (1888-1967). Wife (Annie) and daughter (Annie F.) died a few days apart in January 1891 and are buried in Elko, Nevada.
He 2nd married Hattie M. Taufer circa 1895. They had one son, Dewey Taufer (1898-1967).
1910 (*federal census) age 51, living in Elko, NV, with wife (Hattie), son (Dewey), and an older step-son, working as a blacksmith.
He died 27 May 1934 in Oakland, CA, burial at San Francisco National Cemetery, joined by wife (Hattie) in 1951.
