Joe Piekert, an esteemed citizen of the Pilgrim section died at his home there Monday afternoon, September 17 following a prolonged illness.
Surviving him are his wife, and four sons and three daughters, Courtney, Wiley, Boyd, and Howard Piekert and Mrs, Lena Higginbotham, Mrs. Florence Talley and Mrs. Laura Thompson. He also leaves fourteen grandchildren.
Mr. Piekert was born at Goliad July 22, 1865 and was 63 years of age.
His remains ere committed to their final resting place Tuesday afternoon in the Wrightsboro cemetery in the presence of a large number of friends and relatives assembled to pay him a last earthly tribute.
The impressive service that marked the rites were held in the Presbyterian church at Wrighsboro with pastor, Rev. Johns, officiating assisted by Rev. Roth, pastor of Smiley Baptist church.
The pallbearers were chosen from among his neighbors and friends. A number of lovely floral offerings made _____ resting place.
Mr. Piekert had been ill some time and his condition for several days before his death was very grave, the end having been expected at any time.
His passing while a sad blow to loved ones was a blessed release from suffering, his spirit "entered into that rest that remaineth to the children of God."
