Mrs. Burdette Berry Passes Away
Georgiana, youngest daughter of Gary C. and Emma Laugharn was born near Hartsburg, Illinois, September 30, 1900. She spent the early years of her life there, and in 1911 moved with her parents to Pleasant Hill, Illinois. Here she grew into womanhood, graduating from High School with the class of 1919, and it was during these years that she made and became endeared to the many friends that now mourn her departure. After graduating from high school she spent five years in St. Louis, then entered the Gem City Business College at Quincy, Illinois and graduated from that school i n 1925. She was employed as Secretary to Dr. J. W. Crouch, President of La Grange College, La Grange, Missouri and held that position until August of this year. Sept. 2, she was united in marriage with H. Burdette Berry their marriage being the culmination of a romance dating from their school days. After the return from a happy two weeks honeymoon she was taken sick at the Berry home with complications of a typhoid nature. Her condition gradually became worse and fifteen days later it was necessary to remove her to the hospital at Louisiana, Missouri. Here she spent over five weeks, displaying a courage and determination that was remarkable, but the Loving Father asked that she come home and and she passed on to her great reward at 5:35 Thursday afternoon, November 8 at the age of 28 years, 1 month and 8 days. She became a member of the Pleasant Hill M. E. Church under the Pastorate of Rev. Michell and has always taken an active interest in all Sunday School and Church activities where-ever she went. She was a faithful, conscientious worker and was ever willing to not only carry her own cross but to assist a friend whose burden was heavy. During her illness she was cheerful and very appreciative of the many kindnesses of the Doctors, Nurses, relative and friends, who were doing everything they could to relieve her suffering. She has left us, but the sweet memory of her shall remain with us always. Besides her husband and parents she leaves, two sisters; Nellie Gilchrist and Bessie Bruns of Hartsburg, Illinois; three brothers, Earle C. of Manteno, Illinois, Lawrence E. of Franklin, Illinois, and J. Leslie of this city, also a number of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the M. E. Church. Rev. R. L . Sho?? conducted the services assisted by Dr. J. W. Crouch, of Hannibal, Missouri and Milo E. Galloway. A ladies quartette composed of Mrs. Ada Bybee, Mrs. Gertrude Baker, Mrs. R. P. Wells and Miss Leila Bowen with Mrs. A H Lewark accompanist, sang, "Have Thine Own Way Lord", "The Lord Knows Why" and "Beautiful Garden of Prayer", a favorite song of the deceased. Interment was in the Crescent Heights Cemetery.
