Glenn Everett Pierce was born Nov. 25, 1914, in Marion to Thomas H. Pierce and Ida Mae Thompson Pierce. Living most of his life in Marion, Everett spent the last four years in Sweetser near his longtime friends. During the last few years Everett spent the winter months enjoying his time in Florida.

Everett graduated from Marion High School where he was a faithful attendee of all the home basketball games for 40 plus years. He is definitely to be considered their number one fan. In 2005, Everett started a scholarship program called Glenn Everett Pierce Sportsmanship Award. This enables seniors that are a part of the basketball team to continue their higher education at the school of their choice. This is an eternal scholarship for these students and will never expire. Athletic Director Rocky Kent and coach Joe Luce worked with Everett to carry out his wishes for these scholarships. This was a very dear and close part of Everett and he was able to see his dreams get carried out, which in turn makes him live on forever as well. This past Friday, Marion Giants honored Everett at the home game against Richmond.

Everett was a very kind and loving man. He was a member of quite a few organizations, which included: The 7th Armored Division Association, Disabled Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, General Motors Retirees and GM Club, as well as being a lifetime member of the Elks Club and Marion's Moose lodge. Everett made it a point to attend most of the 62 reunions all over the U.S. which were held by the 7th Armored Division. A memorial service will be in his honor along with all of the deceased members in September 2009 in Benning, Ga. where some of his friends plan to attend.

Everett was in Patton's Army where he was shot by a German Aircraft in France during World War II. He spent 1½ years recovering in hospitals in England and the U.S. In 1945 he was given honorable discharge.

In Everett's spare time, he loved traveling. He toured 49 of the 50 states, with Alaska being the only one he missed. He was also an avid coin collector. He and his niece were members of the Anderson Stamp Club.

Everett will be sadly missed by his near and dear friends, especially his close friends Odie and Khara McClung. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sister Ethel Rennaker, niece LaVon Rennaker and two half brothers.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday in Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., with Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial is in Estates of Serenity cemetery.
