The Cook family were originally from England and the first emigrants to America located in Virginia and the Carolinas.
Silas Cook, born in South Carolina, came to Mississippi with his parents, Daniel and Mary King Cook, in 1815, and was married in 1832 to Miss Clements, a native of Tennessee.
James Valentine Cook, planter of Belen, Quitman, Mississippi, son of Silas and Lydia Cook, was born in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama.
