Mr. Holmes was born in Conway, a son of the late Walter Finley and Margaret Helen Todd Holmes. He was owner and operator of the Southern Breeze Motel and the Twilight Surf Motel. Mr. Holmes liked to play golf and checkers. He was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn Causey Holmes, five brothers, Daggett Holmes, Finley Holmes, Sherwood Holmes, W.L. Holmes and Gilford Holmes, and two sisters, Willie Todd and Nancy Bullard.
Surviving are two sons, David L. Holmes and his wife, Tracy of Myrtle Beach and Douglas R. Holmes and his wife, Kathleen "Kat" of Charleston, SC, three grandchildren, Ransam Alan Holmes, Christa Breann Holmes and Brandon Lee Holmes, a special niece, Amber Allen and two special nephews, W.L. Holmes and Elwood Holmes. He was also an Uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel with Rev. Wayne Snipes officiating. Entombment will follow in Hillcrest Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.
