LAYTON - Anna Margaret Parker Hammer died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at Davis Hospital of medical complications after suffering a broken leg.
Anna was born March 5, 1932, in Wellsville, Utah, to Earl Jones and Anna Margaret Parker. She married Denzil K. Hammer and they later divorced. Anna raised three children and worked for many years at Heritage Park Care Center until she retired. Anna lived most of her adult life in Sunset, Utah, where she had many friends. In 2004, Anna moved to Country Garden Homes in Layton, where the owners, staff and her fellow housemates quickly became her second family. She enjoyed looking out for everyone and being the resident mother hen.
Anna was talented at embroidery work, crocheting, cooking and she was an avid reader. However, her true passion in life was her family. She loved being involved in anything that included spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was proud of everything they did. Anna loved holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, and her grandkids will always have fond memories of the annual Christmas-decorating-sleepovers at her home. She also looked forward to every Parker family gathering and trips to visit to her sister in Idaho with her daughters or siblings.
Anna overcame hardships and physical challenges throughout her life, but never lost her spirit of generosity and desire to give to others. Everyone who met her, loved her and she will be greatly missed. She was our special "Gran."
Anna is survived by her daughter, Lori (Scott) Richards; son Derril (Kelly); and daughter Kathey (Jeff) Cooper; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Idella (Boyd) Petersen; brother, Earl Reed (Janice) Parker; brother, Boyd (Arline) Parker; and sister, Paulene Jeppsen. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one grandson, Ryan Jeffrey Cooper.
The family extends heartfelt appreciation to everyone at Country Garden Homes; to Flexcare caseworkers, Lorri Rogers and Kathy Senton; and to Inspiration Hospice; the 3rd floor nursing staff at Davis Hospital; and Dr. Robert Taylor.
A memorial to celebrate Anna's life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Lindquist's Clearfield Mortuary, 1050 South State St., Clearfield, Utah. Friends and family may call from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary prior to services.
Interment of Anna's ashes will be in the Clearfield City Cemetery following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, Va. 22116-7023.
E-mail condolences to the family at llm@lindquistmortuary.com.
