Physician. Medical Pioneer. He was the Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Temple University Medical School from 1940 to 1964. He was the editor of the Journal of Pediatrics. the editor for 50 years of the Textbook of Pediatrics, generally known as the "Bible" of pediatrics. He graduated from the Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, in 1922. He was Professor and Chairman Emeritus, Pediatrics, Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He transformed St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, into a leading pediatric center for clinical care, education, and research. Among the many awards he received were the 1969 American Medical Association's Abraham Jacobi Award in pediatrics, a lifetime achievement award from the American Academy of Pediatrics in 1992, and an honorary doctor of medical science degree from Wittenberg University in 1956.
